From our Nursing Staff:

We have had several teachers reach out with concerns that more students were bringing energy drinks to school. Our wellness policy in our student handbook (pg. 70) states students are not allowed to bring energy drinks to school. I also wanted to share some information about how energy drinks affect our children. Children have smaller bodies, developing brains, and decreased impulse control. This means the side effects of energy drinks have a greater impact on kids. Here are some of those side effects: difficulty sleeping, more irritable, abnormal heart beats, diarrhea, feeling jittery, seizures, increased heart rate, high blood pressure, rapid breathing, dehydration, anxiety and panic attacks. Most studies have shown that caffeine does not improve ADHD symptoms for students, but in some cases can worsen symptoms of impulsivity and inattention.

Thank you for not allowing your students to bring energy drinks to school.
